13 Fabulous Fall 2022 Trends From The F/W 2022 Runway I Love So Much, I'm Wearing Them Right Now!

The Fall 2022 fashion collections traditionally debut at the end of fall and the start of spring, as Fashion Month starts in February and finishes at the end of March, sometimes even early April; which can be frustrating if you find something you're obsessed with and have to wait almost half a year to wear it! However, although I try to teach my kids the power of patience, I am unapologetically not very patient when it comes to fashion, and always try to find fun and new ways to interpret the latest trends and incorporate them into my current wardrobe.

Fashion Trends 2022

This doesn’t just mean as far as wearing fall fashion trends in the spring and summer, and vice versa, but finding new ways to wear pieces that might not be the way they were originally intended. You'll usually find me putting a casual spin on a more formal piece, or adding a touch of luxury to an everyday item. I love thinking outside the box, and fashion allows us to be creative and individual, and I adore making a trend my own by putting my own stamp on things! Which, by the time you’ve finished reading this piece, you'll definitely come to see!

Fall 2022 Fashion Trends

I had so much fun playing around with these Fall 2022 looks, as the new season was full of bold and exciting pieces that I definitely didn’t want to wait until the end of the year for. From feminine, floor-sweeping maxis to bright, bold colors, oh so casual staples such as jeans and tank tops (yes, really!) and powerful evening looks such as embellished hero pieces and super sharp blazers and tuxes, this fashion month 2022 season really did have it all!

Take a look at the different ways I am wearing the Fall 2022 season's hottest trends right now…

Fall 2022 Maxi Dresses

Maxi Dresses

I was delighted to see maxi dresses (and maxi skirts, but we’ll get onto those a little later) on the fall runways, including at Tod’s, Aquazurra, Saint Laurent, Proenza Schouler, Dior, and Max Mara, among others, as I've always believed that they can be worn all year round with the right layering and accessories. Well, I think it's a rule that can be applied to virtually ANY piece, not just maxi dresses.  (Maxi dresses with sleeves are perfect for the colder months if you want something to do the hard work for you. Plus, long-sleeved maxi dresses will usually come in a more fall-ready or wintry color palette, pattern, or fabric, so it's always worth having a few in your rotation to mix things up!) I usually love wearing dresses – maxi or otherwise – layered on top of vests or tees, with cardigans, jackets and even heavy coats on top when the weather gets really cold, so I was up to the challenge of incorporating this trend into my current wardrobe.

Luckily, the weather was on my side and it wasn’t too chilly, so I was able to accessorize my summer floral maxi dress with just my staple grey cardigan – the tones of which complement the dress beautifully without being too over-the-top and summery. As the sun was out, I added my Hermès Oran sandals, which are my footwear of choice for this dress, and my Chloe Faye bag.

When Were Maxi Dresses In Fashion?

The maxi dress first became super popular in the late 1960s thanks to Oscar de la Renta; which actually really surprised me because I always regarded the 60s as the decade of short hems. The 60s are famous for the mini skirts, after all! However, when I did a little more research, I discovered that ODLR's history-making maxi dress didn’t actually come into existence until 1968, when the mini skirts that dominated the early 60s were starting to decrease in popularity. (They had a good run for the majority of the decade, so I do understand that people were starting to look for something new!) The New York Times highlighted an iconic cotton lace maxi dress that Oscar de la Renta designed for Elizabeth Arden Salon in 1968, and the likes of YSL, Dior, and Halston, among others, were quick to also pick up on the trend. And so, the maxi dress was born! Interestingly, the maxi dress had a huge moment in the late sixties and the whole of the seventies, but actually decreased in popularity in the eighties. However, as the more recent runways have proven season after season, maxi dresses are back – and I think they're back for good!

Maxi Skirts

Maxi was a key theme this season, as maxi dresses also naturally extended to maxi skirts, which I will always champion as a fall must-have! We have Coco Chanel to thank for the evolution of the maxi skirt, as she was the first to create a wider skirt for women in the 1920s, to give them a more practical piece to wear so that they could go about day-to-day activities with ease and without restriction. We owe her so much!

How To Wear A Maxi Skirt In Winter

Women’s maxi skirts are far easier to wear in the fall/winter months as they are perfect for juxtaposing with a heavy sweater and over the knee boots for added warmth but without losing the femininity, which is why I don’t think anyone will bat an eyelid when seeing a maxi skirt on a fall/winter runway. Their versatility is everything, which is why I seldom hesitate to invest in a maxi skirt, even if it’s a little on the pricey side, as I know that I will get so much wear out of it; since even the most summery of maxi skirts can be dressed down and worn in the winter months with the right layers.

To prove that summery maxi skirts can be worn in all seasons, I've paired my satin bias cut maxi skirt – which I adore wearing in the summer with more delicate pieces on top – with a plaid lace up button down for ultimate versatility, and added my Gucci Princetown loafers for comfort and my Chanel 19 bag which matches the loafers perfectly.

How To Wear Sequins During The Day

Bedazzled Pieces And Sequins

Anyone who knows me knows that I wouldn’t ordinarily reach for sequins on a day to day basis, but every now and again, I like to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to my sartorial choices. Although I adore dressing up for fancy occasions and I'm not at all opposed to sequins or embellished pieces, my casual style is just that – casual, comfortable, and usually in my go-to neutral color scheme. However, I wanted to prove to myself and anyone else who wanted to try the trend the likes of Simone Rocha, Erdem, Miu Miu, and Fendi, among others, debuted on the runways in various different formats, but wasn’t sure how to do it casually, that sequins can indeed be worn everyday; and I'm pretty happy with my example!

I love the floral sequin blouse I chose, as the colors and pattern make it easy to accessorize around, and will allow you to go as bold or as casual as you dare. For a slightly more everyday look, I think my indigo blue cotton mini skirt is the perfect addition, and I wouldn’t hesitate to add some slides or sneakers for a more dressed-down look. I also loved the idea of playing to the theme and going bold, which is why on this occasion I added my Alexandre Birman snake embossed boots which are also perfect for fall, and completed the look with my Bottega Veneta cassette bag, the color of which complements the top perfectly, and my Hermès silk hair scarf to give my more understated tied back hairstyle a little bit of punch. (Ps: tying your hair in a pony or bun is a great idea when wearing sequin tops, as sometimes I find that your hair can actually get caught in them, depending on their size and placement, so not having your hair hanging on the piece will avoid any accidents.)

Tank Tops

Chloé, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Schiaparelli were among the designers who deemed tank tops perfect fall/winter attire. And I do not want to dispute that! Regardless of whether the world's biggest designers deem them trendy, vests and tank tops are always going to be part of my year-round closet, but I always welcome their addition to the runways! (Click here to check out my recent post about vests, including lots of different ways to wear them throughout the year!) I was really happy to see so many tank tops on the runways this Fall 2022 season, and styling them casually is always going to be my top choice.

Cute Ways To Wear A Tank Top

I always like to have tank tops (and T-shirts for that matter) in various different colors at the front of my closet as they're so easy to just grab and go. They're great for layering, so even in the fall and winter I always find myself wearing them under or over something. On this occasion, I've let my ribbed moss colored tank top be the star of the show, and I've teamed it with my Agolde straight leg jeans, pink Hermès loafers for a little splash of color, and my Balenciaga Le Cagole mini bag, which I love right now as my go to bag. Its absolutely tiny and can’t hold anything except my essentials, which means my 5 kids have to carry their own water bottles and snacks- trying to instill some independence over here : )

Lace Trend 2022

Lace

Lace has been a hot trend for quite a few seasons now, and it isn’t going anywhere for Fall 2022 either thanks to everyone from Miu Miu to Givenchy, which is great for anyone who invested in some key pieces when it first made an appearance. I love my lace wrap top as it's a little bit subtler, which means it can be worn alongside other pieces and blend in perfectly. I also love that it's a wrap top as it makes it stand out from the competitors; plus the sleeves make it a little more fall/winter appropriate compared to lace vest tops that are also very popular right now.

I wasn’t surprised to see lace on the new-season catwalks because lace is a great fall/winter trend due to the heaviness of the fabric, not to mention the fact that there is SO MUCH that can be done with it! There are so many gorgeous lace pieces such as lace blouses and lace shirts for those fancier occasions, and even long-sleeved lace tops, lace sweaters, and of course for cocktail parties, only a romantic lace dress will do! However, true to my signature style I've gone for casual on this occasion, and paired my lace wrap top with my Agolde straight leg jeans, Chanel slides, Chloe sunglasses, and my Chanel 19 bag to break up the blue tones in the rest of the outfit and make it a little more summery. I would opt for a bag in a more wintery shade such as black or even burgundy later in the year.

Fringe

Fringe is trending for spring 2022, and I was so excited to see fringe return to the fall runway too, as I wasn’t ready to put the fringe away just yet. Plus, I love the seventies meets boho elements of it; not to mention all the fun ways to experiment with it. My take on the fringe trend might surprise people – especially when reading my previous comments about sequins – because I decided to incorporate two fall 2022 trends in one and inject some sequins into my fringe trend too. And I couldn’t have been happier with the results!

I've teamed this gorgeous fringe sequin vest with my favorite mom jeans for that must-have mix-and-match, smart/casual look, and elevated the look with Chanel pumps, a Dior silk hair scarf, and my Chanel 22 bag.

What Are The Fall Winter Colors For 2022?

Cobalt Blue

And now on to the colors! Every season, there are a few colors that dominate the runways, and wearing a few pieces in the color of the moment is actually one of the easiest ways to show that you're aware of or even ahead of the trends. While I love understated autumnal colors, as they fit my statement aesthetic, I love injecting some color into my outfits too – and I couldn’t wait to start incorporating this bold and surprising cobalt blue trend into my wardrobe!

A bold and vibrant color such as cobalt blue would instantly elevate and transform a dull fall/winter wardrobe. Just imagine jazzing up a winter outfit with a bold blue sweater or even investing in a cobalt blue winter coat? That would bring a whole new meaning to the term winter blues!

I wanted to start adding some cobalt blue into my outfit right now, as I didn’t want to wait for the fall, so I immediately grabbed my blue tie dye tank dress. I always love tie dye – even more so when I do it myself. (Click here to learn more about the time myself and the kids went on a DIY tie dye adventure at home. It was super fun and super successful, and I recommend it to everyone!) I added a white summer button down which is great for this time of year, although I'll definitely be wearing the dress on its own in the summer, and finished off with  my YSL sneakers and Chanel 19 bag.

What Colors Are In For 2022?

Jewel Tone Purple

Another dreamy color that I couldn’t wait to start incorporating into my wardrobe right this very moment was jewel tone purple. While I am confident that this rich hue will look divine in the fall and winter months alongside some of my chunky knits and other fall/winter faves, I couldn’t wait to try it out for this time of year too.

I found the most gorgeous cotton harem jumpsuit which is so comfortable, but I think the rich jewel tone purple color elevates it. There's something about this color that screams opulence to me, and I don’t think a floral or patterned jumpsuit could make such a casual piece look so elevated in the same way. I teamed the jumpsuit with Dolce and Gabbana slippers to maximize on comfort, safe in the knowledge that the color of the jumpsuit does all the hard work for me, and my Chanel 22 bag for some added luxury.

Winter Whites

I've always been a fan of winter whites, and pretty much anything that goes against convention. When everyone else may be reaching for their black and other dark items in winter, I like going in the other direction and lightening up the color palette.

Another reason I will always rave about whites in the fall/winter season is because existing spring/summer staples can be recycled and reworn with new layers and accessories. Sustainable fashion is something I am very passionate about, so I love the idea of investing in a white summer dress and then repurposing it for the fall/winter months by switching up my footwear and adding cozy layers on top. A white dress in the winter teamed with an oversized faux fur coat sounds pretty magical to me!

This time round, I've worn my romantic lace white maxi dress, which also incorporates the aforementioned lace trend, and teamed it with a cream-colored cardigan to show how it can be worn in slightly colder months, alongside my slouch boots, which I will be switching up when the weather gets warmer and I wear the dress on its own without any added layers on top, and my Chloe Faye bag.

Corsets

Underwear as outerwear has been a theme for quite a few seasons now; and for Fall 2022, there were still plenty of lingerie-inspired slip dresses and corsets at the likes of Miu Miu, Paco Rabanne, Balmain, and Dior, to name just four. I'm still loving the idea of interpreting this trend in my own way, and right now, styling a corset with an oversized white shirt is my absolute favorite!

Wearing corset style belts are a great way to cinch in the waist when wearing oversized shirts or sweaters for example, which makes a world of difference in the fall and winter months when you're wearing more layers and don’t want your figure to drown and get lost in the extra fabric. As I  want to show how to wear a corset over a shirt, my smart casual and totally on-trend look consists of an embroidered floral corset, which I teamed with an oversized white button down, Spanx faux leather leggings (I am so grateful for these!) as well as Chanel platform lace up shoes and a Bottega Veneta pouch to add some more color to the look.

How To Wear A Corset Casually

Corsets – But Make It Casual

I wanted to explore the corset trend a little further and add another more traditional corset, to inspire anyone who wants to go a little bolder with the trend. I wanted to prove that the corset trend can work in a casual, comfy, and non-racy way, and think the way I have styled it on this occasion does just that. Let me know if you would be tempted to recreate this look in a similar way; I always love to hear your thoughts!

Keeping the color palette dark, sleek and understated, I've worn a black velvet corset, and teamed it with a charcoal sweatshirt underneath (another great hack for getting the most out of corsets in colder weather!) as well as my barrel style jeans, Chanel boots, and Chanel flap bag.

Acid Wash Jeans

I'm happy to try any jeans trend (even the low rise jeans trend; although admittedly it wasn’t my favorite since I prefer much higher waisted styles now I’m in my thirties) and I didn’t need much convincing to try the acid wash denim trend that dominated the runways this season, as it fits my signature color palette so perfectly!

Are Acid Wash Jeans In Style In 2022

It looks like things are getting a whole lot simpler for Fall 2022 thanks to the dominance of 80s and 90s fashion, and simple women’s jeans are being paired with simple plain white shirts to make a huge style statement. I'm obsessed with how effortlessly casual – and eighties and nineties – this trend is! My effortless look consists of yellow acid wash jeans, a graphic waffle tank, Dior espadrilles (which are perfect for the casual meets luxury style) and my Balenciaga Le cagole mini bag.

Blazers

Officewear has been quite prominent on the catwalk ever since the athleisure trend and more super-casual pieces dominated a few seasons back, to correspond with the pandemic and people working from home. Although I don’t work in an office (you'll find me in workout pants and sneakers when I'm teaching my fitness classes) I've always liked the idea of working what many would regard as traditional office attire into my wardrobe either by way of chic, sharp blazers (my black Balmain blazer is still my fave! ) or accessories such as smarter shoes or bags.

My style is all about mixing and matching smart/casual and high/low pieces, so I love the idea of incorporating blazers into my everyday wardrobe. On this occasion, I've worn my blue satin longline blazer (which I think is a great alternative to the traditional office blazer – and it's a lot more flattering thanks to the elongated silhouette, so I love it even more!) and teamed it with my Stuart Weitzman 5050 boots, to show how it can be worn with fall/winter footwear, and my Chanel bandeau scarf and Chanel flap bag. Do you think I would get any strange looks walking into an office with this outfit?

Can I Wear A Blazer With Jeans?

Blazers – But Make It Casual

Corsets aren’t the only trend I'm offering two styling options for, as I also wanted to show an even more casual way to wear a blazer, as I think it’s such a versatile piece that we don’t give enough credit to. Yes, blazers are perfect when worn as part of a pantsuit or skirt suit for the office, but I think it's just as if not more powerful when used to elevate or even simply complement a more casual outfit.

I think I wear blazers just as much as I wear denim jackets in the spring or fall when it’s not quite winter coat weather, and this look is one of my favorites! I think the key to wearing a blazer casually, such as with jeans or shorts, for example, is in the blazer itself. When it comes to what blazer to wear with jeans, forgo the conventional black form-fitting blazer, and go for a more casual oversized blazer instead. Alternatively, go for something with a pattern, or even something in a bright color. I've seen some bold and fabulous blazers out there these days, from animal print, to fluorescent colors; and although a lot of them come as part of a matching set, it's perfectly acceptable to wear them individually too. Again, the possibilities are endless if you love mixing and matching like I do! For my super casual take on the blazer trend, I've gone for an oversized check blazer, my Agolde straight leg jeans, a staple white tank, Jimmy Choo sneakers, and my Chanel 22 bag.

Tuxedos

Now let's flip the script and end with something totally different. The blazer trend has also evolved into the tuxedo trend, which believe it or not, I am also obsessed with. I love the idea of wearing something a little unconventional to formal events; how cool would it be to swap a traditional cocktail dress for a sleek and chic tuxedo?! I don’t have anywhere to wear this right now, but when the right event comes, I know exactly what I'll be wearing!

I've decided that I don’t want to wait for the next big formal event to wear my white tuxedo, so I've dressed it down by adding some comfortable flats (my trusty Chloe Franne loafers to be exact) a purple shimmer bodysuit, and my Bottega Veneta cassette bag, which also adds a pop of color to the outfit too! To dress it up, I would swap out the shoes and bag for some heels and a clutch, although I think the bodysuit might have to stay! Because nothing says party quite like a shimmery bodysuit, right?!
